The books, the films, and the music collection are offered to everyone who lives the spaces of this center : the material provides the elements with which minds can meet and find inspiration, or it can simply be the background in a moment of repose. The inner layer of the bark on a tree was called librum in Latin (from which English library); similarly, in the innermost spaces at Holy Wood, in the heart of the woods, you will find a collection of bark: the Library. In the same places where farm animals used to find their fodder, you can now find books: anthropology, psychology, narratives, poetry, philosophy … all nutrition and excitement for the spirit. The international makeup the activities pursued at Holy Wood are invested with also informs the book collection, in which you can find texts written in languages other than Italian (some have parallel-text translations, others do not).
The Library itself is set up so as to make it possible to host art exhibits and concerts (chamber music and performances by soloists and small ensembles) as well as conferences and study groups. The Video Collection currently holds some 500 titles on VHS support: among them the masterworks of international cinema, some "fluffier" productions whose aesthetics nevertheless show the makings of a different vision, and some rare documents concerned with visual anthropology. A collection of critical essays and works on the history of cinema enables users to delve deeper into the work of important filmmakers and into the themes they dealt with. The center has also a small internal cinema, equipped with DLP digital projector, Dolby Surround audio system, and special-interest and international satellite TV channels at guests disposal.
The Music Collection brings together the great works of the Western tradition, from its beginnings to modern jazz and contemporary music, and is open to the melodies and rhythms of all other musical traditions. |
